31 October 2026 · art experiments, oil pastels, poetry
Revisiting my poem "No idea is mine, it's simply a fish I caught", playing with life, creativity, and exploration – now through different artistic mediums other than word-smithing!
The poem reflects on the ebb & flow of inspiration,
the patience required to nurture and capture ideas,
and the joy of discovery alongside others.
I used oil pastels, exploring different sea life through clumsy & bold textures <- some of the characteristics I love most about oil pastels!
I find the medium of oil pastels allows for delciously tactile, full-body expression.
Being able to press hard into the paper, feeling the drag of the pastel through my body. Layering and blending colours to create depth and vibrancy sometimes with a very messy outcome!
But such is life, and such is the creative process. And thank God for that! It's good for the planet babes.
Getting myself messy with unforgiving medium and colours, allowing myself to scrawl on colours in both surging anger & deep concentration opened meditative space for me to reflect on the mirrored fluidity and unpredictability of both water and life. {Depth & vulnerablitiy, doesn't it make you feel so alive!!}
May I be like water, fluid & formless, vast & dangerously transformative.
Stay curious y'all :)
"No idea is mine, it is simply a fish I caught."
Let go of ownership.
Learn to swim with the currents of inspiration and share in the delights of the catch.
The joy is not in possessing the fish, but in the act of fishing itself — the thrill of discovery, the dance with the unknown, and the shared indulgence in what we catch together.
Creativity is a vast ocean teeming with ideas, curiosity is the best bait, but a full net is always better reeled in with others.
Let's go fishing!
